The Mobile Supermarket and Sapphire Skies

The dust settles differently out here in the Gemfields, and with it comes a certain rhythm to life. We've settled in nicely at Sapphire Campground, and it's quickly become apparent that necessity truly is the mother of invention, or at least, of a rather ingenious grocery solution.

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, a full-size prime mover, sporting an 'oversize load' sign, unfolds a substantial market stall right there in the open air. It's essentially a shipping container that's been cleverly converted, complete with a corrugated roof extension providing welcome shade. The side of it is painted with vibrant graffiti, urging everyone to "Treat yo self." And honestly, after a bit of travelling, that's often exactly what you want to do.

Inside, it’s a surprisingly well-stocked setup. Rows of fresh produce – onions, citrus, garlic – sit alongside other essentials. It’s not your gleaming city supermarket, but it's a lifeline for those staying in the area, a testament to the resourcefulness you find in places like this. Lisa was certainly pleased to find some decent greens. It's these unexpected conveniences that make exploring regional Australia so interesting.

As the day winds down, the vastness of the outback reminds you of its enduring beauty. The skies here are something else entirely. We watched one of those sunsets that just paints the entire horizon, a blend of oranges, purples, and deep blues that slowly fades into the night. It’s a quiet show, but an utterly captivating one, a perfect way to end a day spent exploring the unique offerings of Sapphire.
